Toy Trap Sensory Play

As I understand, people love a simple sensory activity. Yesterday I came up with one that uses only a little string, a laundry basket and a few of your baby’s favourite toys.

All you need to do is thread the string through the holes of the basket to create a spider web and then place the toys at the back of the basket.

I used some of my little ones wooden shapes and stacking rings.

At first I placed her on her tummy and she began pulling at the string and weaved her hand through to grab the green block. As she is teething at the moment she gave it a good chomp before reaching for the yellow ring.

She loved this activity! It’s a great one for hand eye coordination and practicing her fine motor skills.

Give this one a try! If you don’t have string at home you could use wool, shoestrings or possibly even some dental floss.

If you are weaning or if you just want baby to eat healthier, try placing fruit and veg at the back of the basket. My little one is only on her second week of weaning on purée. In the future I will definitely be using this game as a way to get veg down her! Can she rescue the fruit or veg from the spider? The veg would instantly become more interesting. You could cook up a nice plate of healthy food using the same fruit and veg. Try this with foods that you struggle to get baby to eat.

Have fun!

About Me and a Dancing Pea Activity!

Hi, welcome to my new blog. Six months ago my world brightened immensely. I gave birth to my beautiful baby girl. Like most mummy’s I have made it my mission to try and ensure my little one is as happy and healthy as possible. On a daily basis I make sure she is getting lots of stimulation with classes, outings and at home activities. I know that learning through play helps babies and young children grow and develop.

Having worked in education for over 10 years as a teacher, early years educator and a science technician means I have lots of experience providing activities for all different age groups. I’ve worked in both nursery, primary and secondary school.

When my baby girl was 3 months old, I decided to join a baby sensory class. I could see how much she loved the classes and so I decided to do extra baby sensory activities with her at home.

I try to do an activity a day. Even very simple activities like blowing some bubbles for her, reading or singing songs are great.

Last month I created a fb group and an Instagram account called Mumchum_Club. I share my weaning journey, product reviews and baby sensory play ideas on my Instagram. The fb group is a friendly space where parents can seek advice from one another or share ideas.

Anyway that’s enough waffle about me! Here is one activity that I have recently shared on my Instagram feed:

Dancing Pea’s Tummy Time Activity

You will need:

  • ziplock bag x1
  • Pea’s
  • Water
  • Tray (optional)
  • Tape (stronger the better)

The method is simple. Fill the bag 1/3 with water and the pea’s. Remove any air and close the bag, securing with tape. Lastly, tape the bag down onto a hard surface or on a tray.

My baby girl loved batting and stroking the bag to watch the pea’s dance about in the water. After her tummy time, she also loved stomping on them with her feet!

This activity has been very popular on my Instagram. Give it a go, your baby will love it.

I will be posting more activities on the blog soon. Make sure you’re following.
